The result of creating the ideal dish cloth using 100% cotton kaya (mosquito netting) fabric.

A new classic for enjoying daily life, with a texture that grows soft enough for washing.

Essential for daily work in the kitchen, Sodateru Fukin works to provide the best, most easy-to-use dish cloths. The result of this hard work is a kaya (mosquito net) fabric cloth. Originally from Nara Prefecture, the coarsely woven mosquito net fabric can easily suck up water while also drying quickly, and it is also incredibly hygienic. Though there are many rayon fiber products on the market, Sodateru Fukin is made using 100% natural mosquito net cotton fabric.

“Our three founding members are close friends who originally worked together for a baby undergarment manufacturer, so we are specialized in natural materials and carefully garment manufacturing,” says company head Toshikazu Mori. With machines passed over from the prior owner (who had no successor), Mori and friends started the business in 2013, coming from a totally different field. Mori himself was a heavy user of the kayu mosquito net material, and in 2017, with the start of his new brand, he thoroughly developed the concept for the ideal dish cloth.

So the cloth could be easily wrung out by women, the size was adjusted to 30 x 30 cm, smaller than the typical cloth on the market. Experimenting with thicknesses from 5 sheets to 10 sheets, the company eventually settled on using 7 sheets in the cloth after repeatedly testing the wash and dry process. Specialist artisan Hiroyuki Suenaga supported the technical aspects to creating this ideal cloth. A hardcore machine enthusiast, Suenaga customized the equipment as necessary, and after various planning, established a system to efficiently produce high quality fabric. What resulted was Sodateru Fukin, a fiber that gets softer with each wipe, and boasts superb water absorption. It improves the more you use it, making housework more enjoyable.
