Super hard metal that maintains cutting power for 40 times longer
This box cutter is a game changer

Even a freshly sharpened knife will dull as use increases. Some blades can be clipped and re-sharpened when they go dull, but a surprisingly large number of people are uncomfortable with such a task, finding the process scary, or finding the blade difficult to discard. This product, the Aya Long Lasting Durable Box cutter was created with such people in mind. Its creator, Masao Mizuno, developed a special technology to adhere cemented carbide to several millimeters at the tip of the blade edge. Taking advantage of Masao’s technique is Quiléle’s brand manager Yuka, Masao’s only daughter.
Back in the day, joining cemented carbide to stainless steel could only be done through brazing, and the bonding strength was not particularly good. Mizuno carried out research in partnership with a university, and succeeded in joining cemented particles to steel by mixing them together at a high pressure and high temperature. This technique makes the cemented steel nano-particle sized, and vastly improves the degree of adhesion to the blade. The result is a blade that is resistant to chips, wear, breaks, and warps.

In the beginning this technology was used for OEM products targeted for knife manufacturers, but by 2015 the company decided to create their own in-house brand. The goal was to create a box cutter that was smaller and more easy to produce than a knife. Upon providing a prototype product to partner company’s who regularly use box cutters in their work, we compared the prototype’s wear with conventional blades after one week of use, discovering that Mizuno’s cutter remained sharp even after a year of use. When calculated in terms of number of days, this is approximately 40-50 times longer than conventional blades. “Not only are we confident about our blade quality, we wanted the product to be used with love. We specially designed the handle so that the product would make a good gift,” says Yuka. Tasteful, natural wood is used in place of an ordinary plastic handle, adding Osaka’s traditional craftsmanship Osaka exotic woodworking to the lineup. “This box cutter is a real game changer,” says Yuka.
