The feet quickly break in to the shoes due to their lightness and softness, making blisters unlikely. From the outset, with artificial leathers and adhesive glues, I think the shoe-making technology here is higher than other regions and overseas, says CEO Yoshiomu Mizutani, who created la gomma sandals after 5 years of work.

Derived from the Italian word “gomma,” the appeal of these sandals is a fresh design utilizing two straps on the top and the tongue, in addition to using a material that thoroughly works to achieve a comfortable stride. The tongue utilizes an elastic material, so it will fit any foot. To the contrary, the material of the top strap is not elastic, providing a firm hold. Further, the fully tested sole has an excellent degree of elasticity, achieving a comfortable step, minimizing exhaustion, and making it easy to walk. “At first we started working to try to achieve a quality in-house product for ladies and kids. We began with the material, then continued by working on the fabric, which required a special sewing machine. Ultimately, I think we were able to create the ideal pair of shoes,” says Mizutani. While the company continues producing OEM products in their factory, they are regularly announcing in-house brands of shoes created from their own desire to wear them. “OEM manufacturing is important for passing down technical skills, but having the in-house brand shoes arranged in stores becomes a source of pride for the workers. In the future we hope to launch our own store in partnership with the material suppliers and sewing machine makers who are involved in creating the shoes.”
