Yoshizaki Wood Works Co., Ltd. company head Junji Yoshizaki took apart radio sets and speakers as a child. As the fourth generation in the family wood fitting business, Junji inherited the company and set about creating speaker products in line with his childhood hobby. Though it is generally said that speakers made with hard, heavy wood provides good sound, Yoshizaki utilizes sugi (cedar) and hinoki (white cedar) woods local to Tokushima prefecture. Wood speakers maintain sound quality, with a light, warm sound suitable to the product’s compact shape providing sound that resonates comfortably in the ear. The body of the product is designed for authentic sound, utilizing the best parts possible.

In charge of design, Nami Ishikawa structured the product using a natural shape that incorporates Tokushima’s traditional shijira-o weave and indigo dyeing methods. However, Yoshizaki is a speaker fan at heart. “At first we had a fight about putting fabric over the speaker cone. But after listening to the prototype, it actually had better sound that I would have thought,” he says, laughing. A variety of mini-speaker types quickly followed. Now many people are growing attracted to the charming appearance, gift-ready packaging, and appeal of the sound. Yoshizaki is also elated at the increase of fans.
